Gerhard Johannes Paul Domagk was born on October 30th, 1895. German pathologist and bacteriologist, awarded the 1939 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine, for discovering the antibacterial effects of Sulfonamidochrysoidine (KI-730). The substance was the first commercially available antibiotic (under the brand name Prontosil).
